The brokerage expects sporting and entertainment events to strengthen demand before the month ends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Macau.- Citigroup<\/strong> has maintained its MOP20.5bn (US$2.54bn) September GGR forecast for Macau. The estimate implies 12 per cent year-on-year growth and follows weaker-than-expected August performance. Macau casinos generated MOP21.89bn (US$2.71bn) in August, down 1.2 per cent from a year earlier but up 8.1 per cent from July.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the first six days of September<\/strong>, Citi estimates GGR at about MOP3.8bn (US$471m), giving the market an average daily run rate of MOP633m (US$78.4m). That’s around 10 per cent below August\u2019s MOP706m (US$87.5m) average, but still 4 per cent above the MOP610m (US$75.6m) recorded in September 2025. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Citi expects stronger gaming demand later in the month amid major sporting and entertainment events. The World Table Tennis Champions Macao 2026<\/strong> is running from September 8 to 13, while the 34th Macao International Fireworks Display Contest<\/strong> is scheduled for September 12, 19 and 25, with further shows on October 1 and 4.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

September also benefits from a lower annual comparison base. Macau\u2019s GGR was MOP18.29bn (US$2.27bn) in September 2025 after Typhoon Ragasa<\/strong> forced casinos to close for 33 hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

JP Morgan<\/strong> has estimated GGR at MOP19.64bn (US$2.43bn), equivalent to about 7 per cent annual growth, while Seaport Research Partners<\/strong> expects MOP20.12bn (US$2.49bn), or 10 per cent growth.<\/p>\n\n\n
