The court has issued notice to the Daman and Diu administration over Delta Corp\u2019s challenge to a Bombay High Court ruling that blocked its plans to operate electronic gaming at The Deltin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

India.- The Supreme Court of India<\/strong> has issued notice to the Union Territory Administration of Daman and Diu after Delta Corp<\/strong> challenged a Bombay High Court ruling concerning its application to operate gaming machines at its The Deltin property in Daman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The dispute centres on whether a 1992 amendment to the Goa Public Gambling Act<\/strong> was brought into force in Daman and Diu. The Bombay High Court ruled in April 2026 that the amendment had not become operational in the Union Territory. However, Delta Corp argues that a 1998 notification<\/strong> extended the amendment to Daman and Diu, providing a legal basis for its gaming licence application. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The company received a no-objection communication from authorities in 2007 and subsequently invested in developing The Deltin. It applied for a gaming licence in 2014, but permission to operate slot machines wasn’t granted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Supreme Court\u2019s notice allows the legal challenge to proceed, but does not grant Delta Corp permission to operate gaming machines at the property. The company must await the court\u2019s decision on whether the relevant amendment applies in Daman.<\/p>\n\n\n
