The measure, which reportedly includes major international brands, was implemented within 24 hours following an order from the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A100-point Governance Reform Action Plan introduced by Prime Minister Balendra Shah aims to use Nepal&#8217;s existing legal framework to strengthen enforcement against operators. Point 42 makes the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology responsible for enforcement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Despite being illegal, international platforms have attracted Nepali customers with sports betting, live betting, casino games and virtual gaming, the government noted. It said cricket and football were among the most popular markets. Participating in, promoting or facilitating illegal betting can result in asset confiscation, up to one year in prison and fines of up to NPR10,000 (US$65).
