The Australian casino operator recorded a statutory net loss after tax of A$307.3m (US$219.9m) for the year ended June 30, compared with a A$427.9m (US$306.2m) loss in FY25.

Normalised revenue fell 2.2 per cent to A$1.101bn (US$787.8m), while the EBITDA loss before significant items narrowed from A$76.2m (US$54.5m) to A$16.1m (US$11.5m). Gaming revenue declined 5.3 per cent to A$756.2m (US$541.1m), with weaker table-game performance at The Star Sydney accounting for much of the decline. Non-gaming and other revenue increased 5.4 per cent to A$344.8m (US$246.7m), supported by higher operator-fee revenue from Brisbane.

Sydney remained the group’s weakest major property. Its normalised revenue declined 9.3 per cent to A$621.3m (US$444.6m), while gaming revenue fell 9.1 per cent to A$499.8m (US$357.7m). Table-game revenue dropped 16.4 per cent to A$274m (US$196.1m), reflecting the continued effect of regulatory reforms, including mandatory carded play and restrictions on cash use.

The Sydney property recorded a segment EBITDA loss of A$32.7m (US$23.4m), an improvement from the A$47.7m (US$34.1m) loss in the previous year.

The Star Gold Coast delivered stronger results, with normalised revenue rising 2.3 per cent to A$420m (US$300.5m). Gaming revenue increased 3.2 per cent to A$256.4m (US$183.5m), driven by electronic gaming machines. Segment EBITDA rose 69.7 per cent to A$37m (US$26.5m), from A$21.8m (US$15.6m).

Brisbane revenue increased to A$59.7m (US$42.7m), from A$29.6m (US$21.2m), while the segment EBITDA loss narrowed to A$20.4m (US$14.6m), from A$50.3m (US$36m).

The group cut operating expenditure by 7.9 per cent to A$860.4m (US$615.7m). Net funding costs increased to A$83.8m (US$60m), from A$48.3m (US$34.6m), reflecting higher average debt and interest rates, as well as foreign-exchange movements affecting US dollar-denominated debt.

The group recorded A$144.3m (US$103.3m) in significant items after tax, including costs associated with the settlement of its GST and withholding-tax dispute with the Australian Taxation Office, restructuring, regulatory and legal expenses, debt refinancing and the joint venture partner transaction.

The group reported stronger trading in July, with combined revenue from Sydney and Gold Coast reaching A$92.4m (US$66.1m), up from A$87.3m (US$62.5m) a year earlier. Sydney revenue rose 3 per cent year-on-year to A$54.2m (US$38.8m), while Gold Coast revenue increased 10 per cent to A$38.2m (US$27.3m).

The Star said material uncertainties remain around its ability to continue as a going concern. Its Sydney casino licence remains suspended, while the deferral of the Gold Coast licence suspension currently runs until September 30, 2026. The group continues to engage with regulators as it progresses its remediation programme.

No dividend was declared for FY26.

   See also:

See also: The Star cuts quarterly EBITDA losses

The Australian casino group reported lower gaming revenue but stronger performance at its Gold Coast and Brisbane operations.

The Star Entertainment Group reported a reduced FY26 net loss of A$307.3m, driven by cost reductions and improved performance at its Gold Coast and Brisbane properties, despite a 2.2% decline in normalised revenue.
