South Korea.- Shareholders of South Korean casino operator Kangwon Land Inc<\/strong> have approved former military commander Kim Do-gyun<\/strong> as the company\u2019s new president and chief executive officer following a vote at its 34th Extraordinary General Meeting<\/strong> at the High1 Palace Hotel<\/strong>. The appointment provides for a three-year term, pending confirmation by South Korean President Lee Jae Myung<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kim joins the casino company after a career in defence. The 61-year-old led the Republic of Korea Army\u2019s Capital Defence Command between 2020 and 2022 and previously headed the North Korea Policy Office at the Ministry of National Defense from 2018 to 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The meeting also approved changes to the company\u2019s senior management and board. Yu Jeong-bae<\/strong>, 61, was appointed executive vice president for a two-year term. He formerly served as president of Korea Coal Corp.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jang Kyung-ryul<\/strong>, 54, was named a standing director for two years and will join the company\u2019s audit committee. He previously headed the Gangwon regional office of the National Intelligence Service, serving in the position from 2025 until this year. Meanwhile, Kwon Soon-hyung<\/strong> failed to secure approval for a proposed executive vice president position.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kangwon Land operates South Korea\u2019s only casino where local residents are permitted to gamble. Its resort is located in a former mining area of Gangwon Province.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
