Following his recent appointment, Focus Gaming News spoke exclusively with Lee about his priorities, the realities of building a sustainable regional strategy, and the opportunities he sees for operators and technology providers across Asia.

After more than 15 years in igaming, you have seen many companies talk about Asia as their “next big growth opportunity.” What convinced you that Digitain has the right foundations to build something sustainable in the region?

Many companies identify Asia as the next major growth opportunity; however, entering a market and building a sustainable presence are two very different things. Success in Asia requires patience, commitment, strong local partnerships, and a deep understanding of the different markets, cultures, and regulatory environments across the region.

What stood out to me about Digitain was the company’s comprehensive product ecosystem, established reputation, and its focus on building meaningful relationships with partners. Digitain has a market-leading solution to address essentially every element of the igaming ecosystem, meaning we are in a fantastic position to deliver tangible benefits to operators at any stage of development. I believe sustainable growth comes from creating real value for partners, understanding their goals, supporting their development, and providing solutions that are flexible enough to meet local requirements while maintaining high standards of quality and reliability.

“Asia” is still often discussed as if it were one market. From your experience, what is the biggest mistake global igaming companies make when trying to build a regional strategy?

Many igaming companies have struggled in this region due to a belief that successes in other parts of the world can translate directly into successes in Asia. For me, a successful regional strategy requires listening first and understanding local realities before implementing solutions. What works in one market may not necessarily work in another, so flexibility and adaptability are critical.

Companies that invest time in building local knowledge, developing strong partnerships, and creating market-specific strategies are better positioned to achieve sustainable growth. The goal should not be to simply exist in this market, but to become a trusted and valuable partner within regulated markets.

Localisation has become one of the industry’s favourite words, but true localisation goes far beyond language, currency or payment methods. What does a genuinely localised gaming experience look like for Asian players today?

True localisation means understanding the complete player journey and adapting the experience to meet local expectations. This includes everything from product preferences and user experience to regional trends, cultural considerations, and operator requirements. Technology provides the foundation, but successful localisation comes from combining data, market insight, and close collaboration with local partners. It is about having sufficient experience and judgement to know where our services can offer unique value as a potential differentiator, and where local expectations should take precedence. Operators today are looking for solutions that allow them to deliver relevant and engaging experiences for their audiences, and Digitain’s products and services can be utilised to perfectly fit any regional strategic approach.

Asian operators are becoming increasingly sophisticated in what they expect from their technology partners. What has changed in those conversations, and what separates a true strategic partner from simply another platform provider?

The conversation has evolved significantly. Operators are no longer looking only for a technology provider – they are looking for strategic partners who understand and align with their business objectives and can support long-term growth. For many years, Asian operators have managed with rudimentary and rigid solutions, particularly with regard to PAM and CRM systems, but as the market matures as a result of regulatory change and competitive pressure, it has become clear that more comprehensive solutions are needed to fully maximise the opportunity in the market.

Today, operators expect greater flexibility, reliability, market expertise, and the ability to adapt quickly to changing technological advancements and compliance requirements. Strategic partners should bring more than a platform – they should provide knowledge, collaboration, and confidence that they are positioned to achieve results not just today, but over the long term. At Digitain, we will focus on working closely with partners, understanding their challenges, and delivering solutions that help them compete effectively in their respective markets.

Looking three to five years ahead, which shifts do you believe will redefine igaming in Asia, and where does Digitain intend to be when that next chapter takes shape?

The businesses that find and maintain a level of success over these next few years will be the most dynamic in vision, structure, and adaptability. As we have seen in other regulated markets around the rest of the world, the task of retaining a competitive advantage while also meeting compliance demands without sacrificing scalability is not an easy one. We are approaching a consolidation point in this region, so I think over the next few years we may see some operators facing strong challenges to maintain the levels required. At Digitain, we are in a position to significantly reduce these operational pressures. Our ability to add feature-rich services to enhance areas such as product differentiation, CRM, PAM & compliance will make a huge difference for our partners in the upcoming years.

Outside of that, we are hopeful of seeing further regulatory development in other parts of the region. It has been a long-standing topic for discussion for some time, but the blueprint is there, and we are hopeful that others will follow suit after seeing the successes regulation can bring. It’s an area Digitain specialises in, and we will be ready to engage at the moment that change occurs.

Ultimately, Digitain’s aim over the next few years is to be at the forefront of industry development, and to solidify our regional presence as a trusted, market-leading technology partner.

Terry Lee, Digitain’s Head of the Asia Region, spoke to Focus Gaming News about establishing a sustainable presence and providing bespoke igaming solutions in Asian markets.

Digitain's Head of Asia, Terry Lee, discusses the company's strategy for establishing a sustainable presence and delivering bespoke iGaming solutions across diverse Asian markets.
