China.- Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok, has announced that it took action against 417,000 accounts linked to illegal gambling over the past month in an effort to crack down during the FIFA World Cup. It said 90,000 accounts have been permanently banned, while information related to suspected criminal activities has been referred to law enforcement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Douyin said criminal groups had attempted to exploit interest in the Word Cup by posting coded gambling-related content and using QR codes to direct users to illegal betting platforms. The platform said it removed the content as soon as it was detected and continued to strengthen its efforts against gambling-related activity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The update follows previous enforcement actions. In April, Douyin said it had begun removing more than 10,000 gambling-related accounts per day, while last month it reported assisting police in the arrest of 162 suspects accused of promoting illegal gambling websites and other illicit content.<\/p>\n\n\n
