Australia.- The<\/strong> Star Entertainment Group<\/strong> has settled its tax disputes with the Australian Commissioner of Taxation<\/strong> over historical payments made to junket tour operators back when it operated VIP gambling programs. In today’s ASX announcement, the casino operator said the settlement covers the goods and services tax (GST) applied to rebates paid between October 2013 and August 2017 and the method used to calculate withholding tax on payments made between July 2014 and June 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Star said it had previously paid approximately AU$88m (US$57.5m) towards the disputed amount. Under the agreement, the Commissioner will refund about AU$33m (US$21.6m), while the company will record a charge of about AU$55m (US$36.0m) for the year ended June 30, 2026.
