Malaysia.- Police say they have arrested 32 Chinese nationals for allegedly operating an illegal online football betting in Kuala Lumpur. The suspects, comprising 29 men and three women aged between 20 and 40, were detained during a raid by the Criminal Investigation Division of the Cheras District Police Headquarters under Op Soga XI at 2.40am on July 1.

According to Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus, officers seized 28 computers, mobile phones, internet modems and other electronic equipment. He said initial investigations suggested that the syndicate had been operating from a commercial office unit in Cheras for about three weeks. Police claim the premises served as a base for managing customer accounts, processing transactions and promoting football betting through the website 6288.com.

All 32 suspects have been remanded until July 4 to assist with investigations. The case is being investigated under Section 4(1)(c) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953, Section 4(1)(e) of the Betting Act 1953 and Section 6(1) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.

Fadil said enforcement under Op Soga XI would remain active throughout the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with police continuing to target illegal football betting networks and those facilitating gambling operations.
