Macau.- The Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ)<\/strong> has reported that Macau\u2019s gross gaming revenue (GGR) was MOP18.52bn (US$2.8bn) in June. That\u2019s a decrease of 12.1 per cent in year-on-year terms and of 18.1 per cent compared to May<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Analysts said this year\u2019s FIFA World Cup could have a stronger impact on the city’s gaming revenue. The competition, which began on June 11 and runs through July 19, is the first World Cup to feature 48 teams, up from 32 in previous editions. Citi<\/a> expected the increase in the number of matches and longer duration of the tournament could divert consumer spending away from Macau\u2019s casinos. UBS also identified the\u00a0FIFA World Cup as a factor<\/a>\u00a0likely to limit GGR growth in June and July, alongside tougher year-on-year comparisons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cumulatively, Macau\u2019s GGR for the first half of 2026 was MOP126.9bn (US$15.72bn)<\/strong>, up 6.8 per cent year-on-year. The figure remains 15.1 per cent below pre-pandemic levels in 2019, when GGR totalled MOP149.5bn (US$18.5bn).<\/p>\n\n\n
