Malaysia.- Police in Malaysia have arrested four men after raiding an illegal cockfighting and gambling operation in Mukah. The suspects, aged between 30 and 48, were detained during an operation carried out by the district Criminal Investigation Division (CID)<\/strong> at an oil palm plantation along Jalan Bayan Ulu<\/strong> at about 2pm on Saturday. Police said the operation followed intelligence gathering and information received from the public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the Mukah police chief, DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias<\/strong>, the operation resulted in the seizure of three live roosters, one dead rooster, two metal cockfighting spurs, a weighing scale and RM55 (US$13) in cash. The suspects were taken to the district police headquarters and could face charges under Section 73(1)(g) of the Veterinary Public Health Ordinance 1999<\/strong>, which carries a maximum penalty of RM2,000 (US$491), up to six months\u2019 imprisonment, or both.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Authorities said the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to curb illegal gambling in the district, with investigations continuing in an attempt to identify and apprehend other individuals who fled the scene.<\/p>\n\n\n
