Australia.- The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has announced its compliance and enforcement priorities for 2026–27. It says implementation of Australia’s gambling advertising reforms will be one of its main regulatory focuses over the next year.

The regulator said the priorities target areas where stronger industry compliance is needed to better protect consumers, with gambling advertising singled out as one of its five key enforcement areas for the coming year.

“Whether it is helping stop scam messages before they reach consumers or ensuring vulnerable customers receive the protections they are entitled to, the ACMA will act where industry falls short,” ACMA Chair Nerida O’Loughlin said.

Alongside the announcement, the ACMA published its 2025–26 Compliance Priorities Outcomes Report, highlighting the results of its regulatory work over the past year. During the 2025–26 period, the ACMA opened seven investigations and completed eight related to compliance with NSER requirements. It also launched investigations into 70 offshore gambling services and found breaches involving all 70 services investigated. As a result, 49 illegal gambling websites were blocked, seven operators withdrew from the Australian market, and enforcement action is continuing against 14 providers.

The regulator said that more than 64,500 Australians have enrolled in BetStop since the self-exclusion scheme launched in August 2023. Research conducted by the authority found that 77 per cent of participants reported an improved overall quality of life after registering, while 79 per cent experienced better mental health and 69 per cent reported stronger relationships with family, friends and partners.
