VetChat will provide breeders and trainers across New South Wales with round-the-clock access to veterinary advice.

Australia.- Greyhound Racing NSW (GRNSW) has announced an arrangement with veterinary telehealth provider VetChat to provide animal welfare support for the state’s greyhound racing industry. From July 1, breeders and trainers will be able to access 24/7 veterinary guidance through a dedicated VetChat service line.

Founded in 2017 by Australian veterinarian Dr Claire Jenkins, VetChat provides a telehealth platform designed to allow users to quickly speak to vets to discuss symptoms, share images or videos, and receive guidance on whether immediate treatment is required or if care can be managed until a local veterinary clinic becomes available.

GRNSW chief executive officer Steve Griffin said the partnership reflects the organisation’s commitment to animal welfare and builds on a series of initiatives introduced in recent years. He said the nature of greyhound racing often requires care for animals outside traditional business hours, making immediate access to professional veterinary advice valuable.

“The service will be at no cost to participants and there is not a time limit on calls,” Griffin noted. “We see this partnership with VetChat as another way we can help participants ensure their greyhounds receive the highest level of care regardless of the circumstances.”

VetChat says it has conducted more than 250,000 consultations since its launch and has an average response time of less than two minutes. It’s staffed by board-registered veterinarians with an average of 11 years of professional experience.
