Local media reports that last week’s Chinese Football Lottery sales neared US$1bn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

China.- The 2026 FIFA World Cup appears to be generating a major boost for China’s Sports Lottery sales despite the country not having made it to the tournament in Canada, Mexico and the US. The South China Morning Post has reported that ticket sales reached RMB 6.8bn (US$960m) last week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sales of single-match football betting products reportedly saw a 97 per cent week-on-week increase for the seven days from June 8 to June 14. Some retail locations have reported daily revenues of RMB 100,000 (US$15,000), which is four times higher than usual. Sales are expected to remain strong, with monthly turnover at larger locations is expected to reach up to RMB3m (US$443,000) during the World Cup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Football Lottery, or Jingcai, is a state-operated sports betting game run under the China Sports Lottery. Participants predict the results of international and domestic football matches to win cash prizes up to RMB 5m.<\/p>\n\n\n
