India.- The Uttarakhand Special Task Force (STF)<\/strong> has reportedly ordered the blocking of 86 websites allegedly involved in illegal online gambling. STF senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh<\/strong> announced the action on Wednesday, June 3, describing it as part of an ongoing campaign against online gambling networks and related cybercrime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the STF, the blocked platforms were suspected of facilitating unlawful betting and gambling operations that exposed users to financial losses and potential fraud. The recently approved Uttarakhand Gambling Law 2026 <\/strong>provides for prison terms of three to five years and fines ranging from \u20b92 lakh (US$2,008) to \u20b910 lakh (US$10,440) for those found operating online betting syndicates through websites, mobile applications or other digital channels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The legislation also grants police officers of the rank of sub-inspector and above the authority to make warrantless arrests in certain gambling-related cases. In addition, authorities may seize movable and immovable assets believed to have been acquired through the proceeds of illegal gambling and betting activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Singh said the task force would continue monitoring digital platforms and pursuing action against both online and offline gambling networks as part of efforts to combat cyber-enabled financial crime in the state.<\/p>\n\n\n
