Hong Kong.- Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges<\/strong>, the Hong Kong Jockey Club’s chief executive officer, has warned that illegal gambling operators pose a serious threat to Hong Kong. He made the remarks at the opening of the Mark Six 50th Anniversary Exhibition<\/strong> at Tai Kwun<\/strong> in Central. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The exhibition marks 50 years of the Mark Six lottery, which was originally launched in 1976 to redirect illegal street gambling into a regulated system that supports social welfare funding. Engelbrecht-Bresges noted that over the decades, the lottery has generated more than HK$30bn (US$3.83bn) for the Lotteries Fund and HK$55bn (US$7.02bn) in duty, supporting thousands of community projects. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He added that in the past five years alone, about HK$19.5bn (US$2.49bn) has been allocated to elderly care, rehabilitation, and family and youth services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He stressed that while the lottery has delivered a strong social impact, continued vigilance is needed to counter illegal operators and protect the integrity of regulated gambling channels.<\/p>\n\n\n
