Myanmar.- Some 52 people have been detained in a coordinated operation against suspected telecom fraud and illegal online gambling operations in Tachilek Township, Shan State (East). The operation was carried out on April 27 by a joint task force after intelligence reports about alleged online fraud and gambling in the vicinity of Loma Hotel in Weinkyauk Ward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the first raid, officers arrested three men from China and six women from Myanmar. Items recovered included 320 mobile phones, 108 tablets and 39 computers. In a second operation carried out later in the day, police arrested 43 people: eight Chinese male nationals, one Taiwanese woman and 27 men and seven women from Myanmar. Police seized 52 mobile phones, 23 all-in-one computers, one monitor and one system unit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Officials said the seized devices are undergoing examination as part of investigations into the scale and structure of the suspected fraud and gambling network. They added that efforts to dismantle illegal online gambling and telecom fraud operations will continue, with further enforcement actions expected. Authorities said the operation was part national efforts to combat cyber-enabled crimes, which Myanmar has described as a growing cross-border threat requiring cooperation with neighbouring countries.<\/p>\n\n\n
