Thailand.- Thai police and provincial administration officials carried out coordinated raids on two suspected illegal gambling venues in Bangkok on Saturday night. They detained 104 individuals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first operation targeted a single-storey warehouse within a luxury development on Hathairat Road in Khlong Sam Wa district. Police say they arrested 63 people (33 men and 30 women) and seized hi-lo dice tables, poker-style card tables, fish-shooting machines and more than THB300,000 (US$9,240) in cash.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The second raid took place at a former petrol station in Soi Seri Thai 9 in Bueng Kum district, where 41 people (21 men and 20 women) were detained. Officers confiscated THB50,000 (US$1,540) in cash along with hi-lo gambling equipment and related items.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to officials, the Hathairat Road premises had been rented in November last year from a property developer for use as a storage warehouse. The operators reportedly ran 24-hour gambling. Daily cash circulation was estimated at no less than THB1m (US$30,800).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The raids were led by Ronnarong Thipsiri<\/strong>, director of the Department of Provincial Administration\u2019s Law Enforcement Operations Centre. He described the Hathairat Road operation as well-organised, with air-conditioned rooms and a mix of hi-lo gambling, fish-shooting machines and online betting. He said similar illegal gambling operations, some employing guards to control entry, had been identified in several areas of Bangkok.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis was a well-organised operation,\u201d Thipsiri said. \u201cThese two raids should serve as a warning to operators elsewhere<\/strong>. We expect this crackdown to send shockwaves across the capital and lead to the closure of other illegal gambling venues.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n
