Cambodia.- Orders have been issued to close 91 casinos allegedly linked to online scam operations in Cambodia. According to official statements, the casinos were identified as either directly operating online scams or facilitating fraud.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The announcement followed Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s visit to Phnom Penh, where he met Cambodia’s Prime Minister Hun Manet on April 22. Beijing urged stronger action against cross-border gambling and online fraud, describing such activities as a serious threat to public safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

More than 250 suspected scam centres have been raided across Cambodia over the past nine months. Authorities say over 13,000 foreign nationals have been deported, while hundreds of thousands have voluntarily left Cambodia amid heightened enforcement measures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cambodia\u2019s gaming sector has long faced scrutiny due to alleged links between casinos and scam compounds, with some facilities reportedly repurposed to host cybercrime operations involving fraud, human trafficking and forced labour. A draft anti-scam law currently under consideration<\/a> introduces prison sentences of up to 30 years for those involved in telecom and online fraud, while expanding liability to property owners, recruiters and public officials connected to such activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
