India.- The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has notified stakeholders that the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025<\/a> will come into effect on May 1. The regulations bans real money gaming while <\/strong>making a clear distinction from permitted social games and esports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Any game involving real money stakes is explicitly banned. Authorities say law enforcement will coordinate with banks to block related transactions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A new Online Gaming Authority of India<\/strong> will act as the central regulator, overseeing classification, compliance and user complaints, while also maintaining a list of banned games. The authority will have the power to investigate violations and impose penalties. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Most non-money games will face minimal regulatory requirements, with no mandatory registration unless specific conditions are met. The framework introduces user protection measures<\/strong>, including transparency requirements and grievance mechanisms.<\/p>\n\n\n
