Thailand.- Thai authorities have arrested a 32-year-old Chinese national suspected of playing a key role in an online gambling network tied to the controversial Shwe Kokko development in Myanmar<\/strong>. The arrest was made in Pattaya by Thailand\u2019s Central Investigation Bureau (CIB), working alongside the Immigration Bureau following intelligence shared by the Chinese embassy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to investigators, the suspect was a leading figure in an online gambling operation that allegedly ran 239 platforms, attracting more than 330,000 Chinese users and generating a turnover of around THB13.18bn (US$220m).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Authorities said the network was directly linked to the so-called \u201cgrey-zone\u201d business ecosystem associated with Shwe Kokko, a development in Myanmar that has drawn scrutiny over alleged connections to illegal gambling and other illicit activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The suspect reportedly attempted to evade law enforcement by changing nationality and entering Thailand using a Saint Kitts and Nevis passport. He initially stayed in Bangkok before moving to a luxury pool villa in Pattaya\u2019s Jomtien area, where he was apprehended.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Police classified him as a prohibited person under Section 12(7) of Thailand\u2019s Immigration Act, which applies to individuals considered a threat to public safety or those wanted by foreign authorities. His visa has been revoked. Officials said Chinese authorities are seeking extradition, and that the suspect is being processed for deportation.<\/p>\n\n\n
