Nepal.- Authorities say more than 7,000 betting-linked apps and web platforms have been taken offline in Nepal following coordinated action between the Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA)<\/strong> and internet service providers. The enforcement effort is being carried out under a government directive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NTA deputy director Surya Prasad Lamichhane <\/strong>said service providers have been ordered to monitor, detect and immediately disable illegal gambling platforms. He said the authority has so far received more than 50 complaints in a week through phone calls, emails and other reporting channels, all of which were acted upon as part of the enforcement drive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The crackdown follows a cabinet decision adopted on March 27 under a 100-point governance reform plan. While the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology is responsible for issuing instructions, the NTA carries out enforcement through internet service providers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nepal\u2019s Criminal Code 2074 explicitly prohibits gambling, with offenders facing fines of up to Rs 10,000 and imprisonment of up to one year.<\/p>\n\n\n
