The Philippines.- The Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) has arrested ten individuals in Barangay Avance\u00f1a, Molo, for alleged illegal cockfighting activity locally known as \u201cpauwak\u201d. According to the ICPO, the suspects were apprehended during an operation conducted on Good Friday, April 3, following reports from residents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Police said they found six fighting cocks, two makeshift ring nets, two foldable chicken cages found and seized cash amounting to P1,900<\/strong> (US$31.50). They said four of the suspects were residents of Barangay Pakiad, Oton, Iloilo province, while the others were from Iloilo City. They were taken into custody at Police Station 4 <\/strong>and will face charges for violation of Presidential Decree 1602<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Investigators are also working to determine whether the suspects are part of a larger network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ICPO officials reiterated that \u201cpauwak,\u201dunsanctioned cockfighting typically held outside regulated arenas, remains prohibited under Philippine law. The police office urged residents to continue cooperating with by reporting suspicious activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Col. Wilbert Parilla<\/strong>, ICPO chief, said: \u201cWhile some individuals continue to engage in unlawful activities, our operatives remain committed to enforcing the law. We urge the public to stop illegal gambling, as it breeds other criminal activities and erodes public order.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n
