The Philippines.- The Philippines National Bureau of Investigation (NBI)<\/strong> has launched an investigation into allegations that agrarian lands in Bataan<\/strong> were illegally transferred to a former offshore gaming operator. The agency says around 20 farmers submitted sworn affidavits and supporting documents to the NBI-National Capital Region (NCR)<\/strong> detailing claims.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The complainants alleged that land parcels covered by Certificates of Land Ownership Award (CLOAs) <\/strong>were sold to a private corporation previously involved in the now-banned offshore gaming business without approval from the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR)<\/strong>, which is mandatory for such transactions involving agrarian reform lands. The farmers named several individuals in connection with the transactions, including former presidential spokesperson Harry Roque.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The NBI said initial findings suggest the possible use of falsified documents in the processing and transfer of titles. It added that the NCR office is conducting a case build-up to establish probable cause and identify individuals who may be held liable.
