The move is billed as a significant step in the operator’s sustainability strategy and circular economy efforts.

Developed with local firm Fnetlink Technology Company Limited, the initiative builds on a smart, automated card-shredding solution co-developed in 2023. This enables the processing of discarded playing cards into reusable materials through an end-to-end localised system.

According to the company, the programme uses an intelligent shredding system to break down used cards, which are then transformed into high-quality recycled fibres using an innovative dry regeneration technology that does not require water. The fibres can then be repurposed into eco-friendly packaging materials, including filler products and recycled boards.

Photo: MGM

MGM China stated that, once fully implemented, the programme is expected to recycle and upcycle approximately 3,000 tons of used playing cards annually, achieving a 100 per cent recycling rate.
