The historic venue will host an anniversary race meeting to celebrate nine decades of racing heritage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Australia.- The Casino Greyhound Club<\/strong> in New South Wales\u2019 Northern Rivers region<\/strong> is to celebrate 90 years of history tomorrow (Friday). The anniversary commemorates the Casino Tattersalls Jockey Club<\/strong>‘s inaugural greyhound racing meeting at Carrington Park, later renamed Queen Elizabeth Park, on March 18, 1936.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That first event drew around 1,500 spectators and laid the foundation for what would become a longstanding tradition. Over the decades, the venue has undergone significant transformations. A mechanical lure was introduced in 1938, track lighting followed in 1978, and the original grass surface was replaced with a loam track in 2015. More recently, new lighting was installed in 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Casino Greyhound Club president Mitch Northfield<\/strong>, whose family has deep ties to the sport, said the track upgrade remains one of the club\u2019s proudest achievements and was largely funded and executed at a local level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tomorrow’s 90th anniversary meeting will feature a 12-race programme, with the club boosting prizemoney by an additional AU$2,000 per race. There will be barbecues, raffles, children\u2019s entertainment, and drink specials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Greyhound Racing NSW CEO Steve Griffin<\/strong>, who will be attending, said: \u201cIt will be a wonderful occasion for the Casino Club on Friday and I encourage locals to come along and join in the celebrations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThroughout the years the Casino Club\u2019s committee and staff have always worked tirelessly to ensure their club, the track and their weekly race meetings are a success, and also to support the local participants in the region which is a real heartland for our sport.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
