Sri Lanka.- Deputy Tourism Minister Ruwan Ranasinghe<\/strong> has said that the government aims to make the country a centre for gaming development and technology partnerships. Speaking at the Global Game Connect (GGC) 2026 summit in the capital Colombo, he said authorities are working to create a regulatory and technological environment capable of supporting industry innovation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sri Lanka\u2019s government sees the gaming industry as a strategic component of its tourism development plan<\/strong>. In recent years, the sector has evolved from small-scale gaming venues into a growing segment focused on integrated resorts and high-value travel experiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ranasinghe highlighted the island\u2019s geographic proximity to India as a key competitive advantage. \u201cWe have significant potential<\/strong> for industries like this, particularly for the growing markets next to us, like India,\u201d he said, suggesting Sri Lanka could serve as a platform for regional gaming enterprises.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Deputy Minister of Industries and Entrepreneurship Development, Chathuranga Abeysinghe<\/strong>, told GGC delegates that authorities intend to support both local and international stakeholders seeking to expand operations in the country. He said that \u201ctechnology plus creativity will drive this industry further<\/strong>, and it is a privilege for Sri Lanka to be part of it\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Authorities expect the gaming sector to contribute to broader tourism targets, including a goal of reaching three million international arrivals in 2026. Industry projections suggest the segment could generate roughly US$250m in annual revenue while providing a growing source of tax income.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Officials also highlighted Sri Lanka\u2019s position as a politically neutral destination that could attract digital businesses looking for a stable base in the region. Emerging developments such as the Colombo Port City are expected to play a role in drawing technology firms and gaming companies seeking regional headquarters.<\/p>\n\n\n
