Indonesia.- The government of Indonesia has told Meta Platforms<\/strong> it believes the tech giant has taken insufficient action<\/strong> to curb the spread of online gambling promotions and disinformation on its social media platforms. The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs<\/strong> said harmful content continues to circulate widely on Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to government data, Meta took action on only around 28.47 per cent of flagged content related to online gambling<\/strong>, disinformation and other harmful material. It said the company must significantly improve its monitoring and content moderation efforts to comply with Indonesia\u2019s digital regulations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Indonesia\u2019s communications minister, Meutya Hafid<\/strong>, also made an unannounced visit to Meta\u2019s operational office in Jakarta, where the government raised concerns about the company\u2019s compliance with local content rules and its ability to respond quickly to violations. Officials warned that disinformation, defamatory content and hate speech can threaten public safety and social stability if not addressed promptly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
