Malaysia.- Genting Malaysia Bhd has announced that its long-time president Lee Choong Yan<\/strong> will retire from active executive duties. In a filing to Bursa Malaysia, the casino operator said Lee, 65, has been redesignated as senior adviser and executive director with immediate effect. He will retire as senior adviser on April 30 and serve as a non-independent non-executive director from then on. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The company did not provide reasons for the changes and did not outline a succession plan. Lee, a trained accountant, first joined Genting Malaysia as president and chief operating officer in August 2006. In January 2020, he was appointed to the board as executive director, while continuing as president.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lee also serves as chief executive of Genting UK Plc, which operates more than 30 casinos in the United Kingdom, including the integrated resort Resorts World Birmingham. He also oversees the group\u2019s businesses in the United States and the Bahamas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During his tenure, Genting Malaysia pursued international growth opportunities, including an unsuccessful bid for a gaming concession in Macau in 2022. The leadership change comes as the group recently reported a return to profit in the fourth quarter<\/a>, although revenue declined at its flagship Malaysian property, Resorts World Genting near Kuala Lumpur.<\/p>\n\n\n
