Malaysia.- The media content regulator, the Communications and Multimedia Content Forum (CMCF)<\/strong>, has endorsed the Ministry of Youth and Sports\u2019 plan to implement a structured framework for esports regulation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The proposed guidelines aim to address concerns over violent content and ensure safer practices. According to the CMCF, the framework will support the growth of Malaysia\u2019s esports sector while protecting young players.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mediha Mahmood<\/strong>, CEO of the CMCF, said the Content Forum recently hosted discussions with gaming platforms, developers, player communities, and child safety experts to address the sector\u2019s evolving challenges. She noted: \u201cOur discussions highlighted that user protection, community behaviour, and healthy digital experiences are deeply interconnected. These issues cannot be addressed in silos, particularly as gaming and esports become increasingly mainstream.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The CMCF said it is developing a Gaming Sub-Code<\/strong> under the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Content Code<\/strong> to offer practical guidance on child protection, responsible game design, community conduct, and content standards for digital gaming and esports. This effort will complement the ministry\u2019s policies to support responsible growth and player safety in Malaysia\u2019s esports market.<\/p>\n\n\n
