{"id":777038453,"date":"2026-02-26T08:08:03","date_gmt":"2026-02-26T11:08:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/?p=777038453"},"modified":"2026-04-21T14:03:29","modified_gmt":"2026-04-21T17:03:29","slug":"nsw-government-awards-grants-to-raise-gambling-harm-awareness-among-aboriginal-youth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/nsw-government-awards-grants-to-raise-gambling-harm-awareness-among-aboriginal-youth","title":{"rendered":"New South Wales grants to raise gambling harm awareness among Aboriginal youth"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Three community organisations will deliver culturally tailored social media campaigns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Australia.- The <strong>New South Wales government<\/strong> has awarded AU$400,000 (US$264,000) in grants to support targeted gambling harm prevention campaigns aimed at Aboriginal youth as part of efforts to address disproportionate gambling risks in Indigenous communities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The funding, delivered through the Office of Responsible Gambling\u2019s <strong>\u201cOur Mob, Our Media, Our Message \u2013 Gambling Harm Prevention Grants\u201d<\/strong> programme, will go to three Aboriginal-focused organisations to co-design and deliver culturally relevant awareness initiatives via social media. Research showed that 10.4 per cent of Aboriginal people in the state experience at-risk gambling, compared to 3.8 per cent of the general population.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Souths Cares <\/strong>received AU$149,620 (US$98,700) to deliver a six-month digital education campaign using links to the South Sydney Rabbitohs NRL club. <strong>Tharawal Aboriginal Corporation <\/strong>was awarded AU$150,000 (US$99,000) to run a 12-month youth-led storytelling and media campaign across southwestern Sydney and surrounding regions. <strong>Ungooroo Aboriginal Corporation<\/strong> secured AU$100,000 (US$66,000) to develop a community-driven project focused on sharing lived experiences and promoting culturally safe gambling harm prevention messages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The funded organisations will have <strong>up to 18 months to complete their initiatives<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>David Harris<\/strong>, minister for Gaming and Racing and Minister for Aboriginal Affairs and Treaty, said: \u201cI\u2019m pleased to support these three organisations to create engaging social media content that encourages conversations about gambling harm and challenges attitudes around gambling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe Office of Responsible Gambling was established to provide support to people experiencing gambling harm, which it achieves through a range of services, including face-to-face, telephone and online counselling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Souths Rabbitohs NRL player and Souths Cares Ambassador <strong>Cody Walker<\/strong> said: \u201cSouths Cares leads the way in promoting positive messages that empower young people.
