Macau.- Wynn Macau has shut its poker room, reducing the number of active poker venues in Macau to just three<\/strong>. The closure follows shutdowns at MGM Macau <\/strong>and Grand Lisboa Palace last year<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The move means poker in Macau is now concentrated at Venetian Macao, MGM Cotai, and Wynn Palace Cotai. The Wynn Macau room had operated for several years but reportedly struggled to fully recover after Covid-related casino closures that disrupted player traffic and international tourism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to data from the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ), poker generated US$121m in revenue in 2025, the highest level since 2008 and a 10.4 per cent increase year-on-year. However, tournament poker has faced structural hurdles. Large-scale events only began to return to Macau in 2024, and a planned World Poker Tour stop<\/strong> that year was ultimately cancelled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The lack of consistent marquee events <\/strong>has limited engagement from both professional and recreational players. Regulation appears to be another key factor shaping the segment\u2019s outlook. Under the current concession framework, casino operators are restricted from sharing revenue with third parties, a model commonly used by major poker brands to host tournament series. This complicates partnership structures and reduces incentives to bring high-profile events and global player pools back to Macau.<\/p>\n\n\n
