Aichi reportedly plans to bid to host an integrated resort near Chubu Centrair Airport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Japan.-\u00a0 Aichi Prefecture is reportedly planning to bid to host an integrated resort (IR) with a casino as Japan’s national government prepares for a second application round in 2027. According to local media reports, the proposed site would be on reclaimed land currently used by Chubu Centrair International Airport. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reports indicate that prefectural authorities plan to issue a request for information (RFI) to assess interest from potential developers. A decision on whether to submit a bid would follow a review of responses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Japan\u2019s central government unveiled a draft Cabinet order in December outlining the timeline for the next IR application window, scheduled to run from May 6 to November 5, 2027. Under the country\u2019s 2018 Integrated Resort Act, up to three casino resorts were initially permitted. However, only Osaka secured approval in the first application round. MGM Osaka is currently under development<\/a> and targeted to open in 2030.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aichi had considered entering the first round of bidding but withdrew in 2022. At the time, Governor Hideaki Omura cited disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic as a factor behind the decision. Now in his fourth term, Omura is expected to hold a press briefing to outline the prefecture\u2019s new plans for an IR project.<\/p>\n\n\n
