It estimates that the value of funds circulating through online gambling platforms, which are illegal in the country, reached Rp286.84tn (US$19bn), down from Rp359.81tn (US$24bn) in 2024.

The decline marks the first recorded annual reduction in online gambling turnover since Indonesian authorities stepped up enforcement efforts involving government agencies, banks and private-sector stakeholders. PPATK officials said the result was evidence that tighter supervision and inter-agency collaboration are starting to curb illegal betting activity.

Speaking at PPATK’s 2026 Annual Reporting Meeting in Jakarta, agency head Ivan Yustiavandana said the reduction represented a milestone for Indonesia’s financial oversight framework and would strengthen the country’s position ahead of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) Mutual Evaluation Review scheduled for 2029–2030.

Despite the drop in overall value, online gambling remained widespread. PPATK recorded 422.1 million online gambling transactions in 2025. Deposits amounted to Rp36.01tn (US$2.4bn), down from Rp51.3tn (US$3.4bn) the previous year. According to PPATK Public Relations Substantive Group Coordinator M. Natsir Kongah, approximately 12.3 million people made online gambling deposits.

While deposits declined in nominal terms, PPATK noted a sharp increase in the use of QRIS compared with traditional banking channels and e-wallets. Authorities have warned that the shift toward instant payments and cryptocurrency conversions complicates detection and enforcement efforts.

Between September 2023 and December 2025, Indonesia’s Financial Services Authority ordered banks to block more than 31,000 accounts suspected of being linked to online gambling operations while also requiring enhanced due diligence to prevent repeat use of the same national identity numbers.

   See also:

See also: Indonesia online gambling deposits drop in 2025

Authorities credit coordinated action with banks and payment providers for the first recorded year-on-year drop in illegal online gambling transactions.

Indonesian authorities report the first year-on-year decline in illegal online gambling turnover, crediting coordinated enforcement with banks and payment providers.
