Kuwait.- Kuwait\u2019s Criminal Court<\/strong> has handed down seven-year prison sentences<\/strong> to nine people and imposed fines of KD1m <\/strong>(US$3.26m) each after finding them guilty of forming an organised criminal gang that ran an online gambling website and laundered proceeds from it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to prosecutors, the syndicate routed funds generated from gambling through bank accounts registered to a medical clinic and commercial companies to disguise them as lawful income while moving the money overseas. The court imposed a fine of KD1.84m <\/strong>(US$6m) on an unnamed company for facilitating transactions and permanently barred it from conducting commercial activity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Ministry of Interior <\/strong>said the convictions were the outcome of sustained security operations aimed at tackling organised crime and preventing illegal activity in the financial sector. <\/p>\n\n\n
