The government will run a public consultation on its study for the development of the Macao Light Rapid Transit, proposing up to six new lines and multiple extensions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Macau.- The Macau government<\/strong> has unveiled a long-term roadmap for the expansion of its Light Rapid Transit (LRT) system<\/strong>. The Strategic Study for the Development of the Macao Light Rapid Transit<\/strong> released by the Public Works Bureau (DSOP)<\/strong> proposes a phased expansion of existing lines and the construction of several new routes with the aim of improving urban mobility and reinforcing links between residential areas, tourism hubs and major border checkpoints.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The plan divides future LRT projects into short-, medium- and long-term phases. Among the key proposals is the extension of the East Line toward the Qingmao border crossing and the Fai Chi Kei area, as well as the extension of the Seac Pai Van Line to Coloane Village.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The strategic study also proposes up to six new LRT lines<\/strong>, including a South Line that would connect Barra with the Hong Kong\u2013Zhuhai\u2013Macao Bridge (HZMB) and the Nam Van and Sai Van areas, largely through underground sections. A West Line is also planned, running from Qingmao to Barra to strengthen north\u2013south connectivity across the peninsula.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additional routes under consideration include a Taipa North Line and Taipa Central Line designed to improve circulation within Taipa and link emerging urban zones with existing transport infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Government officials stressed that the study serves as a strategic planning framework rather than a final construction timetable. Public feedback gathered during the consultation until until late February will be taken into account before advancing specific projects or implementation schedules.<\/p>\n\n\n
