India.- India\u2019s central government has blocked access to 242 illegal betting and gambling website links<\/strong> in the latest enforcement action under the country\u2019s new regulatory framework for online gaming. The move brings the total number of unauthorised betting and gambling platforms taken down nationwide to more than 7,800<\/strong>, according to government sources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Officials said enforcement activity has increased significantly since the passage of the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025<\/a>, which was approved by Parliament in August last year and subsequently received presidential assent. The legislation establishes a statutory framework to regulate online gaming, while strengthening powers to act against illegal real-money betting and gambling operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Government representatives stated that the latest action reflects ongoing efforts to protect users and to address the financial and social harm associated with unlicensed online betting platforms. Under the Act, offering prohibited online money games, as well as advertising or facilitating such activities, can result in substantial penalties and expanded investigative measures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
