Analysis of age distribution shows that gambling problems are most prevalent among those aged 20–40.

Turkey.- The number of people seeking treatment for gambling addiction in Turkey has increased 155-fold in six years, according to the Green Crescent Counseling Center (YEDAM), which offers counselling and psychotherapy for various addictions.

YEDAM reports that applications for gambling treatment rose from 37 in 2019 to 5,748 by 2025. Of those seeking help, 34.3 per cent said they first encountered gambling before the age of 18, 42.8 per cent began between 18 and 25, and 22.7 per cent started after 25, indicating that nearly one in three individuals were exposed to gambling during childhood.

Analysis of age distribution shows that gambling problems are most prevalent among those aged 20–40, with 36.7 per cent aged 20–30 and 43.4 per cent aged 30–40, totalling almost 80 per cent. The proportion drops to 15.4 per cent among 40–50-year-olds and declines sharply beyond that age.

The data also dispel the notion that gambling addiction affects only those with lower education levels, with 13 per cent holding postgraduate degrees, 11.3 per cent university degrees, and 11.5 per cent associate degrees.

According to Mehmet Dinç, chairman of Green Crescent, 80 per cent of clients who participate consistently in psychotherapy successfully distance themselves from gambling.
