The company says decentralisation is a critical step in its restructuring and recovery strategy.

Australia.- The casino operator The Star is to close its corporate headquarters in Brisbane. It will shift key decision-making authority to its individual casino properties in Sydney, Brisbane, and the Gold Coast.

In an email to employees, CEO Bruce Mathieson Jr. said he move was a critical step in the company’s restructuring and recovery strategy. the email read: “The corporate office has added complexity rather than value and simplification. We must get closer to our customers and to your front-line teams. And we have to meet the regulatory imperative to decentralize the business and empower our property teams.”

Mathieson did not reveal how many jobs would be lost, but sources have suggested that it could be several hundred from a corporate staff of about 600.

Earlier statements from new chairman Soo Kim had already signaled the company’s downsizing. Since his appointment in December, he has maintained that getting the company “on the right track” could mean major job cuts.

The developments come after The Star was rescued from bankruptcy with a $300m cash injection from Bally’s Corporation, alongside Mathieson family-backed Investment Holdings.
