Macau.- Fitch Ratings <\/strong>has forecast that the growth of Macau\u2019s gross domestic product (GDP)<\/strong> will reach 4.5 per cent in 2026 supported by a \u201crecovery in tourism flows.\u201d Gross gaming revenue (GGR) is expected to reach 88 per cent of its 2019 level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ratings agency said: \u201cWe expect that gaming tourism<\/strong> will continue to drive economic growth, albeit at a slower pace, because weaker economic conditions in Mainland China will increasingly weigh on Chinese tourists.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fitch believes that this caution will be \u201cpartially offset by favourable visa policies, continued investment in non\u2011gaming sectors and improvements in tourism infrastructure\u201d. The agency noted that Macau\u2019s Policy Address for 2026<\/a>, presented in November, highlighted economic diversification and \u201cstrengthened cooperation\u201d to develop the neighbouring cooperation zone of Hengqin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the agency, Macau will continue to run a budget surplus in 2026 thanks to casino taxes. It noted that financial reserves are already sufficient to cover six years of expenditure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fitch expects the SAR\u2019s (GDP to grow by 4.6 per cent this year, a downward revision from the 6.9 per cent forecast<\/a> made in March.<\/p>\n\n\n
