The Philippines.- Pasig City <\/strong>has imposed a ban on gambling advertisements and promotions in public spaces. Ordinance No. 26<\/strong> bans gambling advertising through billboards, transit advertisements for public utility vehicles such as tricycles, pedicabs, as well as PUV terminals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The prohibition extends to building wraps, posters, LED screens, leaflets, brochures, flyers, and other out-of-home or street-level media or printed advertising media. Gambling sponsorships in any educational, sports, cultural, religious events “initiated, organised, or co-organised” by the Pasig City government are also prohibited.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ordinance allows gambling operators to sponsor community activities as long as “any merchandise or donations distributed during the event shall not contain the name of the company or indicate any gambling activities.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mayor Sotto noted that in 2022 Pasig City became the first local government in the Philippines to ban both the offshore gaming operators<\/strong> and computer gambling shops, also known as e-games, within its jurisdiction.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Philippines has seen intense debate around gambling, including calls for a ban on online gaming<\/a>. The central bank has made e-wallets remove links to gambling platforms<\/a>\u00a0in their apps, while PAGCOR\u2019s e-games segment has overtaken traditional casinos as its main growth driver.<\/p>\n\n\n
