Turkey.- Prosecutors made more arrests today linked to a betting scandal that has hit Turkish football. There were reportedly at least 35 detentions across multiple provinces, including footballers, coaches, club executives and sports commentators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of those arrested was reportedly the former referee-turned-media personality Ahmet \u00c7akar. Fenerbah\u00e7e captain Mert Hakan Yanda\u015f was reportedly taken into custody at his Istanbul home, accused of wagering on his own team\u2019s matches. Meanwhile, Galatasaray defender Metehan Baltac\u0131 was rearrested.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The development follows last month’s suspension of 149 referees and assistants<\/a> for alleged betting offences, including cases where officials allegedly wagered on matches they supervised. Prosecutors accuse several suspects of passing insider information, coordinating bets and participating in networks linked to offshore gambling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Authorities are said to have seized encrypted chats, bank records and electronic devices that allegedly reveal coordinated schemes involving timed fouls, tactical manipulation and advance team-sheet leaks. TFF is to submit an integrity report in mid-December. Officials have said it may recommend lifetime bans, structural reforms and further disciplinary actions.<\/p>\n\n\n
