Japan.- MGM Resorts International CEO William Hornbuckle told the Nevada Gaming Commission in a licensing hearing on Thursday that its upcoming integrated resort in Osaka, Japan, will create around 12,000 jobs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hornbuckle highlighted that the Osaka resort will, at least initially, be the sole licensed casino operator in Japan, a market of 120 million people. He also drew parallels to Singapore\u2019s integrated resort model.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Developed alongside ORIX Corporation, the Osaka IR is scheduled to debut in the third quarter of 2030<\/a> on the man-made island of Yumeshima, which recently hosted the 2025 World Expo. It will have hotels, dining, retail zones, a theatre and a large casino floor designed to accommodate an estimated 20 million annual visitors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project represents one of the most significant private tourism investments in Japan\u2019s history with capital expenditure estimated at JPY1.27tn (US$8.1bn). Analysts project the resort could generate close to JPY1tn (US$6.4bn) in economic impact over its first decade, mainly through job creation, increased tourism spending and broader sector development.<\/p>\n\n\n
