The project was designed to enhance the skills of carers supporting Hong Kong\u2019s ageing population.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Hong Kong.- A symposium on the Hong Kong Jockey Club Carer Space Project has provided an update on initial outcomes from the first two years of operation. Launched and funded by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust<\/a> in 2023, the five-year programme is designed to enhance the skills and well-being of carers supporting Hong Kong\u2019s ageing population.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event was attended by HKSAR secretary for labour and welfare Chris Sun<\/strong>, club steward Jackson Woo<\/strong> and representatives from partner organisations. In his welcome address, Woo emphasised the role of carers and the need for cross-sectoral support. Woo said the club will continue to encourage collaboration across sectors to improve the quality of life for Hong Kong\u2019s elderly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The symposium featured a capacity-building seminar and a thematic panel discussion, gathering industry leaders to explore how cross-sectoral collaboration can strengthen community capacity and create sustainable support networks. The event was attended by around 350 local experts and industry representatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Jockey Club Carer Space Project involves six NGOs and the Sau Po Centre on Ageing at The University of Hong Kong. Key services include caregiving planning, counselling, skills training, mutual support groups, and flexible respite services, ensuring carers receive essential support throughout their caregiving journey. The project also aims to benchmark service quality through an evidence-based model and further public awareness of carer support. To date, it has launched 18 Carer Spaces and service points.<\/p>\n\n\n
