Offices say the Philippines-based group handled transactions worth KRW5.3tn (US$3.7bn) in just seven months.

According to police, the ringleader, dubbed “A” planned the scheme while serving a prison sentence in 2020 for similar offences. After his release, he recruited developers and established an office disguised as a server rental company, they say. Between November 2021 and March 2025, the group reportedly built and sold 266 gambling websites, collecting KRW3m (US$2,100) a month in fees.

Police seized KRW480m (US$338,000) in cash, while pre-indictment seizure and preservation measures were taken on KRW3.35bn (US$2.3m) in criminal proceeds. Officers said that while previous arrests targeted individual gambling operators or site developers, this case represents the first successful takedown of a distribution-level vendor company structure.

   See also:

See also: South Korea pushes for ASEAN crackdown on Cambodian scam networks

South Korean authorities have dismantled a major illegal online gambling operation, arresting 14 individuals, including the alleged ringleader.
