Australia.- The Victorian Gambling and Casino Control Commission (VGCCC) has enlisted Aussie Rules footballer Sam Docherty and rugby league player Cameron Munster for its 2025 Gambling Harm Awareness Week campaign. The “set before you bet” campaign encourages setting deposit limits, tracking spending, and gambling no more than 2 per cent of one’s take-home pay. It particularly targets men aged 18 to 34, the demographic most engaged in wagering and sports betting.

Victorians spend more than AU$7bn (US$4.56bn) annually on gambling, including about AU$2.5bn (US$1.6bn) on wagering and sports betting products.

Both Docherty and Munster have shared personal experiences with gambling to help raise awareness and promote responsible habits. “I’ve had my struggles with gambling in the past, and now I set a weekly deposit limit,” said Docherty. “People struggling with gambling harm can feel stuck and alone, but it’s okay to seek help.”

Munster said: “I know the highs and lows that can come with gambling,” he said. “By setting limits, I’ve been able to enjoy the occasional bet while focusing on what really matters.”
