Australia.- The state of Western Australia<\/strong> is preparing for the rollout of mandatory carded play limiting how long players can gamble on electronic gaming machines (EGMs). All guests playing EGMs at Crown Perth <\/strong>will be required to have a valid card and set time and loss limits from December 1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The process to upgrade EGMs is underway, with more than half of all machines to be upgraded by the end of this month. The card, which will be linked to each player\u2019s account, will cap play at 12 hours a day and 28 hours a week<\/strong>, and include mandatory breaks <\/strong>every three hours. Players will be able to adjust their limits within these caps but any increase to limits will take effect only after a seven-day cooling-off period. Requests to decrease loss limits will be applied immediately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Existing members will need to update their cards. The system provides on-screen tracking and monthly activity statements to help players monitor their spending. Crown said that Western Australia will be the only jurisdiction in the world to feature EGM carded-only play with binding time and loss limits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Play period limits <\/strong>are already in place at Crown to help guests manage their time on EGMs. A dedicated Crown PlaySafe team is available 24 hours a day on-site or online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Crown Perth CEO Brian Pereira <\/strong>said: \u201cCarded Play is a cornerstone of our commitment to safer gambling \u2013 it allows us to better understand and support our guests while fostering a safer environment. Carded play empowers guests with more information about their playing habits, promotes informed choices and allows earlier intervention if someone needs help.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n
