Thailand.- A brief flirtation with legalised poker has come to an end in Thailand. Prime minister and interior minister Anutin Charnvirakul<\/strong> has rescinded a ministerial order issued in July that recognised poker as a legal game of skill<\/a> in a bid to attact international competitions. The move reinstates the country\u2019s long-standing ban on all card games associated with gambling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Effective immediately, Interior Ministry Order No. 3179\/2568<\/strong> nullifies the July 30 directive signed during the previous administration. In a statement accompanying the revocation, Anutin reaffirmed his government\u2019s commitment to a zero-tolerance policy on gambling<\/strong>, including activities \u201cdisguised as sport.\u201d The Interior Ministry emphasised that no form of gambling will receive support under the current administration<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The reversal follows a period of political turmoil that saw Anutin\u2019s Bhumjaithai Party withdraw from the previous coalition government and later assume power. While the Pheu Thai Party had pushed to legalise casino resorts in Thailand, Anutin has rejected such proposals, arguing that liberalisation would cause \u201csocial and financial harm.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n
