Bangladesh.- The Bangladeshi government has warned of increased measures against content promoting gambling or pornography.\u2060 Any breach committed by newspapers, websites and electronic media will be treated as a punishable offense under the Cyber Security Act, 2025. the government said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mobile operators, internet service providers and advertising platforms have been asked to configure default settings to block gambling- and pornography-related pop-ups. Filtering and blocking measures are expected to be imposed in line with regulations, and the National Cyber Security Agency (NCSA) will monitor compliance. Enforcement actions may include fines or site restrictions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The government confirmed that the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC), National Telecommunication Monitoring Centre (NTMC), National Security Intelligence (NSI), and the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) will also play a role in enforcement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A non-compliance notice was issued to ESPNcricinfo<\/a> last week for promoting illegal online gambling advertisements and failing to comply with tax laws. In the statement released by the Press Information Department (PID), the government thanked those who had complied with earlier directives. <\/p>\n\n\n
