Australia.- Sport Integrity Australia (SIA) is to establish a major events taskforce ahead of an upcoming host of international sports events, including the 2026 Women\u2019s Asian Cup and the 2032 Brisbane Olympic Games. The aim is to strengthen coordination among sporting codes, law enforcement and wagering companies to safeguard the sports industry from offshore wagering and organised crime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

James Moller, SIA\u2019s head of strategy and international policy, said: \u201cYou could have athletes arriving in one state, gambling happening in another, and the sports betting environment is truly global,\u201d Moller said. \u201cIt\u2019s about getting the right intelligence to the right stakeholders quickly, especially with the tight timeframes of major events.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The initiative follows a Victoria Police summit on Tuesday that featured a keynote from former cricketer Lou Vincent, who was banned in 2014 for match-fixing. Victoria Police Assistant Commissioner Cindy Millen said: “Mitigating the risk of infiltration by organised crime requires collaboration across all our partners, both domestically and internationally.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n
